Practical conveyancing for candidate attorneys and newly admitted attorneys

The course deals with the following questions -

  • Do you want to learn more about the practical side of conveyancing?
  • Do you need a proven system that would help you to conduct your conveyancing practice with confidence?
  • Are you having difficulty with the financial aspects of a deeds file?

If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, then this practical three-day crash course is tailor-made for you.

What is the aim of the course and who should attend?

The aim of this course is to offer practical training to

  • candidate attorneys and newly admitted attorneys entering employment in a deeds section, or
  • sole practitioners who are working without a conveyancing typist.

What is the scope of the course?

It explains the registration of transfers or mortgages, from the opening of the file to the stage when it is finally closed.

Method of presentation

The course consists of a theoretical and a practical section. Practical case studies are discussed to indicate how the theory is applied in practice.

  • Knowledge of the theory is assumed. To ensure the necessary theoretical knowledge, a set of notes, in which the applicable theory is discussed, is made available in advance. Course attendees are advised to register early to give them time to read through the theoretical part.
  • The practical section is dealt with during the lectures. A comprehensive manual covering practice is handed out at the lectures.
  • The course material can be used afterwards in office as an indispensable reference guide.

Practical tasks

This course is modelled on our training courses for conveyancing typists. It covers the practical tasks a conveyancing typist must be able to perform, but it has been adapted to save valuable time. This has been done by taking into account the theoretical knowledge already possessed by candidate attorneys, attorneys and/or conveyancers. Furthermore, the time usually required for evaluation in typists’ courses has been eliminated.

Language

Complete lectures and course notes are available in either Afrikaans or English. Afrikaans course attendees may attend English lectures but opt to receive Afrikaans notes and vice versa, on condition they specify this at registration
